WHAT IS BARRONIUM?

Patent pending Barronium® is a highly advanced proprietary material developed by Zeal Innovation to significantly enhance cut resistance against power tools, especially angle grinders, without adding extra weight.

Barronium® is a Fused Composite Armour made up of multiple, extremely hard ceramic and metallic materials which combined, make it tougher than an angle grinder disc. Barronium® repels attacks by turning the grinder’s energy and force on itself.

Barronium® can be permanently fused to almost any metal substrate to provide unparalleled security and protection from power tools.

How was Barronium developed?

Over a period of five years, Professor Neil Barron and Zeal’s engineering team developed Barronium® in association with Swansea University’s School of Engineering and their advanced materials and metallurgy labs, and with the support of Innovate UK and the Welsh Government.

They set out to make the most power tool/angle grinder resistant material within current manufacturing capabilities, with the aim of incorporating aerospace level technology into consumer products.

Thousands of different combinations of materials, applications and structural formats were tried and tested before landing on the final composite material recipe, they named Barronium®.

Professor Neil Barron

Neil is an industrial designer, engineer and entrepreneur with a degree and background in Aeronautics and Astronautics (Rolls-Royce) and over 25 years’ experience running a design and innovation consultancy working on the creation and development of many award-winning products for international markets. He operates at the intersection of design, cutting edge technology and contemporary culture.

Neil has an MA in Industrial Design and a postgraduate research degree (MPhil) from the Royal College of Art. Before founding LITELOK, Neil was Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Disruptive Market Innovation at The Royal College of Art Innovation Design Engineering department with Imperial College, London running the delivery year of the joint MA/MSc and supervising a number of PhDs. Neil is connected with multiple Universities and is currently external examiner at Loughborough University.

LITELOK X USE CASE

LITELOK X is the first consumer product range to be armoured with Barronium®.

It is a new category of full-sized, armoured D-locks that offers bicycles, e-bikes and motorcycles unparalleled resistance against portable angle grinders, which have increasingly become the tool of choice for professional bike thieves.

Barronium® is permanently fused to the D-lock’s hardened fine-grain, high-tensile steel core to provide up to 15 times more resistance than the current best-selling D-locks. LITELOK X offers additional protection against all other commonly used tools such as bolt croppers, cable cutters, long bars, hammers and chisels and includes a unique anti-rotation feature to protect against twisting attacks and single cuts.

Accredited to Sold Secure Bicycle and Motorcycle Diamond level, LITELOK X locks will protect all bikes against even the most determined bike thieves.

BEYOND BIKE LOCKS

Neil and the Zeal Innovation team are actively developing numerous new applications for Barronium® beyond bike and motorcycle locks, all of which are protected by patent applications that cover a wide variety of potential end uses.
